Goal Setting Your Way to Success

by Chauntelle Popp, Marketing Director TheOfficeSquad®

Do you know where you are? Do you know where you want to go? Do you know how you are going to get there? Our choices affect our daily lives as well as our future, and it is our goals that drive our choices.  Everything we do, say, accomplish or fail at happens because  of the choices we make.   The choices we make are highly dependent upon whether  or not we have a goal. Let's say you are one of those early risers who get up every morning, do some stretches and go for a mile walk before work.   You are not out there just for the heck of  it.  You either want to stay fit, boost your energy level or lose weight.    Regardless of the reason, your choice to take action was determined by your goal to achieve  a desired result. In business, as in our personal lives, we must have goals in order to make effective decisions. If we go about a task without a goal in mind, then we are just going through the motions without purpose.

When we find purpose in the things we do, we tend to put more heart and soul in to our efforts.  We  find it easier to stay motivated and focused, and in turn learn more through our experiences. If you start out your day or week without having a goal in mind, and a plan on how you are going to accomplish that goal, you might as well be walking aimlessly in  the dark.  You may be expecting to end up somewhere, but where?.  What's the purpose?  Just to see where you wind up?  Wouldn't you rather know where you are going, and which path to take to get you there?  Can you imaging how much faster you would reach your destination if you did know where you were going, and had a map (or plan) to guide you along the way? It's all about goal setting!

Give it a try... Set a goal this week, then decide how you plan to accomplish that goal.  Write your goal down and put it somewhere where you can see it and read it over daily.   At the end of the day, or even the end of the week, assess whether  your daily behaviors have supported your goal.  Most importantly, don't give up.  If you stick with your plan and know your purpose, you will enjoy success. Getting in the habit of setting goals, whether personal or business related, will help you grow by leaps and bounds.  You will feel great, and become more motivated as you become successful in accomplishing your desired results.  Remember, success is not always measured by how much money you make, but by how much you grow in your efforts to achieve.   "Most people see success as being rich and famous or powerful and influential.  Others see it as being at the top of their profession and standing out from the rest. The wise see success in a more personal way; they see it as achieving the goals they have set for themselves, and then feeling pride and satisfaction in their accomplishments.  True success is felt in the heart, not measured by money and power. So be true to yourself and achieve those goals you set.  For success is reaching  those goals and feeling proud of what you have accomplished." ~ Tim Tweedie
